Kris Okun has been playing/studying the piano for over 16 years and he has been teaching private one-on-one piano lessons throughout Cobb County Georgia for the last 10 years. He has given thousands of private piano lessons to students in their homes who range in age from 4+ years old through high school. He currently has students who have been studying with him for over 8 years and can play various styles of music including Jazz, Pop and Classical. Some recent performances of his students from the last Classical and Rock/Pop recitals include – Piano Man by Billy Joel, Hungarian Dance No.5 (Brahms) and Jazz Tocatta.

Kris Okun majored in piano at Kennesaw State University studying under Professor David Watkins. His studies with Professor Watkins included mutli-octave modal scales, arpeggios, Czerny/Liszt/Hanon technical principals, JS Bach, Schumann, Scryabin, CPE Bach, and Clementi pieces. Ear training tests were given weekly requiring dictation of melodies and harmonies through various major and minor keys. Annual performances of his work for Jury’s were required for placement into the following year.

Kris Okun also studied piano under Misha Stefanuk from the Moscow Conservatory. While studying under Misha, they covered the classical era (Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc...) and jazz. Our classical training included multi-part harmony and inventions, sonatas and sonatinas. During our Jazz studies, we covered splitting harmonies under chordal melodies for a more smooth Jazz feel.

My studies at home now cover Jazz, Pop and Classical. Each day something new is always discovered and it is my hope to not only make piano fun and enjoyable but to also share these new discoveries with my students.
